1939 Life Story 2025
Deacon Alvin “SUG” Nelson
A Time to be born:
Alvin Nelson was born on June 28, 1939, to the late Alvie and Linar Nelson in Inverness, Florida.
A Time to Rest:
Alvin transitioned on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in the Timber Ridge Nursing and Rehab Care Center.
My Younger Years:
Alvin’s family had a small farm in Inverness, Florida. He was an outstanding athlete while attending Booker T. High School, where he excelled in every sport, including football, where he was the “Star Quarterback.” He also played basketball and could play every position on the baseball field. Alvin was a great bowler as well. “Sug” was what you would call in today's society “A Coach's Dream.” He had the size, speed, and agility. Somewhere along the way, he was also known as “ACE.” After high school, he attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. Alvin was in a singing group called The Nelsons with his siblings. They loved to sing and were really good. He loved music, and one of his favorite songs was “ICE MAN” by Jerry Butler.
Sug leaves to cherish his memories
