September 15, 1942- Remembering Our Beloved-February 6, 2024
Merice Dee Hagins was born on September 15, 1942, to her parents Willie James and Gertrude Milligan in Dunnellon, Florida,(Both Deceased).
She attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Dunnellon, Florida as well, finishing her education at Bethune Cookman College of Daytona, Florida.
Merice was employed by the Marion County School System where she taught 30 plus yours. She touched the lives of many of her students. In 2000, she was nominated “MARION COUNTY GOLDEN APPLE TEACHER OF THE YEAR” and was The First Black To Be Nominated In Marion County.
Merice was a lifetime, and faithful member of 1st Bethel Missionary Church and was active until her heath began to decline.
She Leaves To Cherish Her Memories
A Devoted Husband of 58 Years, Butler C. Hagins, Jr.; Son, Michael C. Hagins(Nicole) of Brooklyn, NY; Stepdaughter, Sygrid L. Robertson of Savannah, GA; Sister, Mae Guiton of Dallas, TX; Five Sister-In-Laws, Joan Sams of St. Petersburg, Fl.; Betty Stokley of Miami, Fl.; Belinda Lewter of Tampa, Fl.: Kistern(Hagins) Sanders of Jacksonville, Fl., and Jeanette Thomas of Crystal River, Fl.; Bother-In-Law, Jerome Brown of Williston, Fl.; A Special Friend, Janet Williams; Two God Sons, Tommie Waters Jr., and Roderick Maxwell, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
