A Reflection to the Community

Mother Florence, affectionately known as “Miss Florence, Flo or Flossy” was no stranger to anyone she met.  She enjoyed meeting people, making new friends, and looking out for others in her community.  As a mother who raised her children with love and admiration, she shared the same affection with other children.  She taught her children the importance of values, independence and to always be respectful of others.  Mother Florence’s home rested on the south end corner of the “Lincoln Park” neighborhood.  With a big yard, all the neighborhood kids often came to her house to play fumble, kickball, and football.  If you got hurt, she always had a remedy and a slice of cake.  Five minutes later, you’d be laughing and back in the game.  Indeed, she was a rare jewel that could have only been given to earth by God.  Her presence will truly be missed.  She inspired not only her children, but others to keep the faith as a soldier in the army of the Lord.

In Retrospect

Florence was a faithful member of True Vine House of God, Inc. where she served as mother of the church.  She became an ordained minister in the Churches of the Living God, Inc. where she served faithfully for over fifty years.  She was a woman who dedicated her entire life to serving and praising the Lord Jesus Christ.  As a young woman, she gave her life to God and started "Running for Jesus."  In ministry, she preached, sang with power, and danced under the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Her character, humility and devotion to God enabled her to be a blessing to countless souls.  She frequently testified, “Without Jesus, I would be nothing.  Just like a ship without a sail.”

The fashion-savvy Florence was a woman with a bright smile who just loved people. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor.  It wasn’t that long ago that she retired her car keys upon her daughter's insistence.  Later, she would joke that she was going to get a motorized bike so she could go to town when gets ready!  Her daughter, Gladys, said, “no, mama, that's not going to happen mama!”

Over the years, Florence was the family’s official cook, baker, doctor, dentist, counselor, supporter, encourager, shoulder to lean on, shoulder to cry on, prayer warrior and neighborhood friend to many.  As a soldier in the army of the Lord, she ran for Jesus until our heavenly father called her home.  She used to sing “Packing up, getting ready to go.”  On Friday, February 17, 2023, the Lord allowed her to wake up and witness one more beautiful morning.  For she knew when she opened the door, she was already “packed and ready to go.”

Her Reflection

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference~
