Reflections Of Oberia (Scott) Williams Life
1936- 2023
Oberia (Scott) Williams was born October 8, 1936 in Stuttgart Arkansas to the late Isaiah Scott and Melvira(Combs) Scott. Oberia was the eldest of the two children born in this union. . Oberia departed this earth on Friday April 7th 2023. Oberia's mother moved her and her younger sister Essie Scott to Buffalo NY when Oberia was a teen. Oberia was educated through the Buffalo school system, earning her high school diploma from Buffalo Evening high school and later earning her Bachelor's degree in finance from Medaille College.
Oberia affectionately known as 'Obie' worked as a NY state employee first for the US postal service and later for West Seneca Developmental Center where she retired.
After 30 years of service. Because of Obie's love and compassion for the residents she developed a special bond with Mary Kowolski who eventually became a part of her family. Obie’s life was filled with love and adventure. She loved to travel; she was known for cruising and taking trips. In addition to traveling, she was a master seamstress, and created an array of items including custom purses and she was also an avid bowler belonging to several women’s bowling leagues.
Soon after Obie's retirement she and Mary moved to Archer Florida to be close to her best friend/sister Ethel Jacobs. Upon Obie's arrival to Archer, she began integrating into the community by working for the state of Florida as a crossing guard. Obie's love for the lord and for people brought her to St Joseph Missionary Baptist Church where she was welcomed with open arms and she became a faithful member and served both the lord and her church family as a Sunday school teacher, an assistant in the finance office, an usher, and a member of the church choir.
In November of 1953 Oberia married the late James Williams and from that union 5 children, Debra, Tonya, Michelle, Stacey and Andre' were born.
